This year Kings Glen will be doing a Reading and Creative Challenge that spans from November to April.

The booklets for this challenge are done and ready to roll out!  Please get booklets from Mrs Fitzgerald.

To participate here is what you need to know:

1) Read a book based on the month’s theme. Record the title and author on the space provided on each page.

2) Complete the challenge for the month. Usually, you include a photo of your project, drawing, or written passage in the box on each page

3) During library, show your monthly entry to Mrs. Dean for recognition. Students who submit a complete booklet at the end of year will be invited to participate in a celebration.

Below is a peek at the Monthly Topics

For November:

Read a fiction book and pick a character from it.  In the box, jot down 1-2 of that character’s traits, and then use any materials of your choice to make a mask of this character showing the traits.

Fiction: literature created from imagination

Character Traits: the way a person behaves (ex. patient, loyal)

For December:

Read any nonfiction book and give a 1 minute book talk about the main idea during library time. Use the box below for notes you will share.  6th graders may also use Flipgrid for their talk.

Nonfiction: literature created from facts and actual events

Book talk: giving a brief introduction to the book to a group

For January:

Read a biography about or autobiography of any famous person.  In the box below, draw a picture of how this person is goal directed or resilient.

Biography: A book about someone’s life written by someone else.

Autobiography: A book by a person about their own life

For February:

Read any fantasy book.  Then, get special square paper from Ms. Fitzgerald to create an illustration of a character or object from the book. During art time, tape your character illustrations to the collaborative mural that will be on display near the art room (see Ms. Fitzgerald for tape).

Fantasy: literature that includes magical and/or supernatural elements as part of the plot, setting, or theme

For March:

Read any cookbook or nonfiction book about any country, and make a recipe or musical instrument from that place.  In the box below, describe what you made and where this recipe/instrument is from.   Bring instrument creations to Mrs. Dean, so we can put them on display in the library

For April:

Read a historical fiction book and then write a poem about something that happened in the book

Happy Reading!!
