There are many military- connected families at Kings Glen ES, and throughout FCPS.

Our school has been recognized by the Virginia Department of Education and the Virginia Council on the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children as a Purple Star School.

Congratulations, Dr. Christine Ritter, the new principal of Kings Glen Elementary School!

Earlier this year, during a meeting of the Kings Glen Elementary School History Hunters and History Makers Club, young members shared their disbelief as they uncovered the lives of remarkable Virginians whose stories, they felt, deserved much greater recognition.

The events over the last week all around our country have been disturbing and especially painful. So, what does that mean for us at Kings Glen Elementary School? It means we continue as a community of respect, love, and welcome for all. As a school community,  we will continue come together, to work together, and to respect each and every one of us. Kings Glen is a family, and everyone should feel physically and emotionally safe here. We will all make sure that happens. If there are students who need extra support with this, we are here to help!  Please reach out to a teacher, School Counselor, School Psychologist, or Social Worker.

These fourth graders have gone from learning about circuits to building their Jazzy Jamestown Theme Park attractions using these skills. Keep your eyes peeled for more as they start to take shape.

Fourth graders are beginning their STEAM PBL about building roller coasters with an exploration of electrical circuits. Check out this space later for even more fun and cool learning as they continue to build their understanding.

One teacher's reading group participated in a project based learning in which they planned and packed lunches for 25 homeless people staying at a Fairfax county hypothermia shelter.

As teams wrapped up their STEAM PBL's about climate change and weather warnings, they reflected on the process and project. Excitement was high. Students loved and learned. They remarked about the benefits of being on a team, wishing only for more time and collaboration moments. They wondered about how their coding might apply to other areas of learning. Some expressed continued concern for our changing environment and how their learning helped them see how they might work toward change. Reflection is the best part of learning.

Students in several classes at Kings Glen are completing project-based learning about solving some of the bad effects of global warming, using skills in coding, problem-solving, presentation, creativity, collaboration, writing and so much more.
