In two concerts with tons of instruments, black and white clad musicians shared yearlong learning of beautiful music with parents and community. Dr Keenan conducted her students lovingly at both concerts. Their efforts delighted listeners and orchestra members alike.

The Lake Braddock Pyramid Parent/Teacher Orchestra is in full swing. It was created by strings teacher, Anne Ray, and co-directed with Dr. Michelle Keenan. While most of the members are parents, you can spot a Kings Glen Staff member or two at practices and in these pictures.

Kings Glen's Jesters performed the musical production of Aladdin Jr for delighted audiences the week before break. By all accounts it was a splendid masterpiece.

Fourth grade students were treated to a presentation by Ms Spencer and Mr Jensen all about plants. After considering parts of a plant along with a beautiful slideshow, students were provided with a basket of fresh vegetation to classify. Ready Set Grow is an enrichment program connected with 4H and Fairfax master gardeners and supports 4th grade students county-wide.

Kings Glen ES is super proud of Mrs Lisa Rode. She was named Region 4 Outstanding Teacher for 2019. Some of her amazing efforts are evident in these images. Always learning, herself, Mrs Rode works to make all her lessons authentic, fun and innovative.

In a collaboration of students, strings teacher and art teachers, this class developed the most amazing musical creations. They designed, cut out and painted creatures of their choice. They inserted brads and connected wires with Makey Makey's. Students wrote code to direct their creatures to "play" musical notes based on wiring. Combining the notes, the next choice was to create music.

120 Fourth Grade Strings students perform in their first ever Strings Concert for their parents! With only one whole group practice, these students performed fabulously and made beautiful music!

One class of Kings Glen students participated in a project based learning experience to plan and prepare lunch for the homeless at a local hypothermia shelter. Their demonstrated eagerness to help others was inspiring.

Art class loves to create and this month it was amazing. Student used science and movement to create automata structures. They added construction paper and more to make moving scenes. The creativity of Kings Glen is extraordinary.

Kings Glen is full of joyous sounds this time of year. Strings, Chorus and Band classes provide music to students and parents at Winter Concerts. Small break out groups sing in the halls, play students into the building in the morning and visit the local high schools to share their talents with everyone. Fifth grade science students pickled cucumbers to learn all about mixtures and solutions. They washed and chopped cucumbers. Then they measured and added all the right ingredients. After more than 6 hours they were treated to homemade pickles. Tasty science project!
