In a collaboration of students, strings teacher and art teachers, this class developed the most amazing musical creations. They designed, cut out and painted creatures of their choice. They inserted brads and connected wires with Makey Makey's. Students wrote code to direct their creatures to "play" musical notes based on wiring. Combining the notes, the next choice was to create music.

Art class loves to create and this month it was amazing. Student used science and movement to create automata structures. They added construction paper and more to make moving scenes. The creativity of Kings Glen is extraordinary.

After a day of Thanksgiving lunches with parents and shopping at the Annual Fall Book Fair, the school community came together to honor our veterans. The celebratory assembly was filled with warm speeches and patriotic music.

Students at Kings Glen spent a few weeks learning everything about planets, stars and our solar system. Then they collaborated in teams to create fun games on paper or computer to share with their classmates and people outside the classroom. Studying, learning, creating! It was all fun.

Students in math class use games and technology along with communication and collaboration to expand understanding of fractions, decimals and percents. Groups use card games and number lines. Students play games and solve problems on the computer. Seating is an option, providing opportunity for choice that builds ownership and independence. This class gets a lesson, practice and reinforcement that meets different styles of learning and levels of learning.

Students had to use steady hands, communication and teamwork to successfully stack cups. The effort required string and patience but students proved they could handle the challenge and have fun too.

Our class completed a very fun and successful community building and collaboration activity. Students really worked well with their groups to save Fred (out gummi worm) from drowning. They needed to put the life preserver (gummi life saver) on Fred using only paperclips. The final reflection on the board were the words and expressions that the class used to describe their group efforts to save Fred. It was pretty amazing.

For Pi Day (3-14 for those of you not in the know) was deliciously celebrated in one grade 6 class with a pie contest and pi math problems. Students brought in pies and teachers taste-tested. While winners may have been named, technically everyone won because the pies were awesome and math was fun.

Various students worked in groups with Mrs Fitzgerald to create some cool movies. They agreed upon a simple rule or good policy for behavior that they wanted to illustrate. Then everyone worked to build, paint and detail a backdrop set and then mold characters from clay. The camera work was next - tedious picture after picture, movement after movement. All these where downloaded into a video editor where the team managed the timing, the slides, the narration, and the music. Finally after weeks of work, a split-second masterpiece was born.
